Saving Cathren, an Oxfordshire-based band that was proving a big hit with gigs at venues and festivals across the region prior to the Covid-19 lockdowns, has released its debut single “Lazy Soul”.
The duo comprises of 35-year-old vocalist Cathren Costantino and guitarist Paul Wilson, 49, and was formed three years ago after Paul responded to an advert placed by Cathren on the Joinmyband website.
Since then they have performed a wide variety of covers at many local festivals and music venues wowing audiences with Cathren’s sublime vocals and Paul’s mastery on the guitar.
Cathren, who works as an IT Consultant, explained “This is our first single from our upcoming album of original songs. Although we have performed several of our own songs on stage in the past, we have mainly focused on covers from the likes of Radiohead, Portishead, Coldplay, Billie Eilish and more. It is truly fantastic and fulfilling to finally release a track of our very own.“For me Lazy Soul is a metaphor for the comfort trap of a convenient life. Gearing down in chasing the true passion, the dream, the music. It describes a tug of war between being diligent at an office job: the safe option, whilst being torn apart by the battle of the unwritten songs inside. As the pressure built, I could literally feel my soul becoming increasingly lazy from the lack of nourishment of creativity, composition and arrangement. It all finally burst through the surface and over 30 songs and 1 year later, ‘Lazy Soul’ is just the start of this second chapter of my life. Boy do I finally feel alive again!” added Cathren.
Paul, a chemical engineer who hails from Grove, commented: “Despite the lockdown we’ve been collaborating daily on Jamkazam and Teams. This debut track is the result of a lot of hard work.“Cathren’s amazing singing and lyrics light up what is a very catchy tune but we do miss the opportunity to entertain live audiences all around Oxfordshire and the South East. Hopefully those opportunities will return soon,” added Paul.
Lazy Soul is available for preorder from midnight Sunday 7th of February with worldwide release on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes. A 20 second teaser of the song is available to listen to at YouTube
